Two ways to treat side stapled canvases.

Hi Arty Friends

I have to admit I am a hoarder. So some of my material was purchased way back in the hope and anticipation that I will need all this very soon. But then there is a time for everything. So I did have some old canvases that were side stapled. I loved the artwork on them once I completed them. But the side staples made me cringe. And I dint really want to spend more money on getting them framed. Besides I believe every home has a different decor and hence should frame their art locally if needed. But you don't really have to frame them.

And I found two great ways to finish the sides.

Old torn Paper glued to the sides to give it a aged look and painted off. Here is a sample.

This is the other side where I have colored only lightly and the paper can be seen through to add some drama.

Cover the sides with Texture white medium and create a frame kind of look. Apply with a knife, create a texture with your fingers and paint once dry.

If your art is whimsical you can also use Washi tapes (sorry I don't have any sample to show you for this one)

And of course staple of no staple sometimes I like extending my paintings like this one. This was created for the Creatively Fit Coaching Program and it has its own story. Some other time.

Happy painting folks.

Much love and light

PS: Please visit http://www.jodichapman.com/nominations2013/ and nominate your favorite blogs. Its a blog with a heart award. And it would really encourage your favorite bloggers. (You can nominate your blog too)  and of course nominate me if you like reading my blog too. That would be such a wonderful gift as the year ends.

I love this idea, Prerna! I think I will do the torn paper collage on the sides of my canvas. I have a large one that I am painting a peacock on, and did not really want to frame it. Thank you!
